The Three Greater New Orleans Ferries
There are three ferries in the Greater New Orleans Ferry System: Algiers Point/Canal St. - Gretna/Canal St. - Chalmette/Lower Algiers. All are free for pedestrians and $1 RT for vehicles - charged from the Westbank only.
Pets are welcome, as are bikes.
Algiers/Canal St. FerryDuration: - 5 minutes
Cost: Free for pedestrians. $1 per car from the Algiers side. Schedule: First boat - 6:00 a.m. (Algiers side) Last boat - 12:15 am. (Canal St.) (after mdnight) Leaves Algiers - every 30 minutes on hour and half hour. Leaves Canal St. - every 30 minutes at a 1/4 until and 1/4 after the hour Directions: Algiers Ferry TerminalGPS: 1 Morgan St, New Orleans, LA 70114
Take the Crescent City Connection Bridge over the river. Exit General DeGaulle, right hand option, Turn right, then right again onto L.B. Landry. Follow to the river. Turn left and follow to ferry terminal on your right. |
ParkingALGIERS: There is a private parking lot just adjacent to the ferry. Because it is a private lot, they can charge whatever they like. The normal price is $5 flat fee on weekdays but they do charge more for high-traffic days like weekends, Mardi Gras, French Quarterfest, etc.
The streets surrounding the ferry are residential parking with a 2-hour limit for visitors. |

Chalmette/Lower Algiers FerryDuration - 10 minutes
Cost - Free for pedestrians, $1 Round trip charged on Westbank. Leaves Lower Algiers every half hour on the hour and 1/2 hour. Leaves Chalmette every 1/2 hour at 1/4 before and after the hour. Hours: 6 a.m.to 9 p.m. daily |
